Hang Roxy

illegalart:

Junk Culture’s “Hang Roxy (feat. Jana Hunter)” premiered today on Altered Zones:

Junk Culture’s Deepak Mantena and Lower Dens’ Jana Hunter play the role of a couple struggling to keep their relationship afloat in “Hang Roxy,” the A-side of JC’s recent 7” of the same name for Illegal Art. Mantena’s lush assembly of transfigured street recordings, hyperactive synthesizers, and funky bass break the ice, revealing a far more complex tale in the process. The desperation of Mantena and Hunter’s frustrated pleas seem at odds with the romantic backing track and their own infectious melody, but that paradox is what makes “Hang Roxy” so compelling. —Matt Sullivan

JAMBOX

So I go into the Jawbone office a few months ago and they put this monolithic block of something on the table and the CEO Hosain Rahman turns on his iPad and hits play on a movie. And I’m seriously like “What the hell, man? Why you gotta make me pee myself like this? Is that entirely necessary? Could you have maybe just told me that you want to show me something I’ve never seen before and let me excuse myself to go into the restroom where an adult pees?”

But then I cleaned up and we started talking about the Jambox and why it sounds like nothing I’ve ever heard before. And then I got some amazing people together and made a video.

The DP is Benji Bakshi. The guy is Tetris Kelly. Yes, Tetris. I cast him on his first ever audition. The music is JAMBOX Anthem by Deepak Mantena (Junk Culture) and Big Shot by Tetris Kelly. The JAMBOX design is by Yves Béhar.

When this thing is in the Apple Store on the 16th, I think you’re going to want to give it a listen.
